In 2015, the YNPN Milwaukee Board of Directors added as a strategic priority a graduate-level scholarship initiative to incentivize professional development beyond a Bachelor's degree for emerging leaders and young professionals in the nonprofit sector in Milwaukee.

Ilona Gonzalez was a lot to many. She was a loving mother, cherished daughter and proud sister to those who loved her. To friends and others close to her, she was a dedicated friend, an ambitious classmate and a motivated colleague. To us, she was a visionary leader, eager to take the reigns of our marketing program to help grow YNPN Milwaukee and better serve the nonprofit sector in Milwaukee. It was evident by Ilona's double alumna status at Alverno College and her recent venture as an adjunct instructor, that she was deeply committed to education, both as a learner and an educator. Ilona also gave back to her community, as a writer and graphic designer with the Benedict Center, and as a board member and marketing chair of YNPN Milwaukee. YNPN Milwaukee is honored to have been touched by Ilona, even if for a short time. Our organization is better because of her service and her vision.

It is with a clear understanding for Ilona's commitment to higher learning, and her service to the nonprofit sector, that we announce the Ilona Nicole Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Education. We have envisioned this scholarship to serve those who have ideals similar to Ilona - a commitment to higher learning and service to the community. The Ilona Nicole Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Education will be gifted to emerging nonprofit leaders who have served as employees, community volunteers or board members with nonprofit organizations in or around Milwaukee to aid in their pursuit of graduate-level degree programs.
